Yesterday during a speech after pleading guilty in a Virginia Federal court to charges related to dog fighting, former Atlanta Falcon Quarterback Michael Vick aka Ron Mexico said that he'd found Jesus. What? Jesus? Well that's fine, I wish Michael luck with his new found Savior. But what I hope Michael found was some common sense as well. Common sense would have kept him out of this in the first place.
Why would a young man with potential earnings of more than 150 million dollars engage in a trifling activity like dog fighting? No common sense. And who was Michael hanging around with? So none of his "friends" said hey wait a minute Mike, maybe you shouldn't be involved in this, since you have so much to lose. Did his mother know? His dad is in the media now saying among other things that he warned his son to stop dog fighting. Wait a minute, Michael's dad says he warned him? Maybe he should have done a bit more than warn him. Maybe he should have said the dog fighting thing is over, done, forget about it. He should have said son you have too much to lose. But apparently he didn't (maybe because Michael hadn't coughed up the money he was asking for), and now it appears that all has been lost.
Anyway, it looks like instead of living the life of a millionaire, Michael Vick is probably going to jail. He may play football again or he may not. In the interim, Mr. Vick will be living the life of an inmate. And it all could so easily have been avoided.
And now that I think about it, it's a good thing that Michael Vick found Jesus, he's going to need Him in prison.

I love the name of your blog!
So, Mr. Vick has found Jesus. Sort of like Paris Hilton, don't ya think. I agree a bit of common sense would have been good for the QB. But he's been doing this since college and he does it because he enjoys it. It certainly wouldn't be his pick for an investment venture for financial reasons. To watch dogs rip each other to pieces and then participate in drowning and hanging them was the draw for him that outweighed the illegality, inhumanity and risk.
I hope he learns from this.
Jackie,
Thanks. And I hope Mr Vick learns something too. But I think it might be too late, I doubt that the PETA people will ever let this go, so even when he's released I don't think the NFL will let him play again. Also, your right, the act of fighting dogs and then killing them is really terrible, I just wish groups like the NAACP would pay attention to other things as well, like Dunbar Village.
LoL - You're Headline is funny... Michael Vick is a trip and at the moment that's all I have to say about that! tisk tisk
