So last fall I decided to get myself ready for the big one. I bought a giant sized backpack and I have been putting things I would need to survive. I have a first aid kit, a flashlight, a rain poncho, protein bars, two changes of clothing, a little cash, etc.
After seeing what happened in New Orleans I decided I could not be unprepared for a natural disaster. Especially one that has no warning like an earthquake.
Are you prepared for a natural disaster? Could you survive for 48 hours without being able to buy anything?

I plan to get better prepared before spring. I live in tornado country. Until I moved to central Indiana, I had never experienced a real tornado warning, meaning there is likely a funnel on or near the ground. It still scares the bejeezus out of me, because it honestly happens ALL THE TIME in the spring, when the weather is turbulent.
I have a weather radio, but I need a weather alert radio that will sounds an alarm when a warning is called. We don't have a basement to run to, but everone in the family knows to head for the interior hallway, the bathrooms or the laundry room if we are in danger. In each of the three years we've been here, we've spent some time huddling in the bathroom with the dog until the coast is clear. (The cats are smart enough to hide on their own.)
This is excellent information and encouragement for all of us to be prepared.
Am I? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeee-it (as the state senator would say on Wired. (smile)
peace, Villager
I've got to do better! I'm no where close to being prepared!
Tami,
Indiana is tornado central; you should defiantly get ready for spring.
Weather radios are really good. More people should have them.
I know how you felt huddling and waiting for a storm to pass. I was in a hurricane in South Carolina once. Wow was that scary.
