Anyway yesterday both shows did a segment on the new Apple MacBook Pro that is about 1 inch thick. My question is; was that a coincidence or did Apple pay for them to do these pieces? And if Apple did pay should they have disclosed that?
What do you think? Did Apple pay or was it just a crazy coincidence?
P.S. I want a MacBook pro!

Put me down with those who believed Apple paid. I doubt very seriously if it was merely a coincidence.
A co-worker of mines owns one. That is some piece of machinery.
Apple did not pay. This is the work of a public relations person, like moi. Media relations is part of my job. Before I began working for a museum, I did consumer PR promoting products.
No doubt before the release of the new computer, Apple's publicists distributed press releases and stock footage of the MacBook nationwide and pitched the story to top media. They may have hosted tech media to try the new product or executed deskside briefings (sit down conversations with journalists). A new Apple product would be a story that most media outlets would jump on, because it has cultural currency--people are eager to know what Apple is doing next. Sort of a no-brainer for a TV producer. It's an easy sell.
Trust me when I say I got far less relevant products covered by national media in my days as a corporate shill. No payment required. When I talk about the evil of consumerism on my blog, I know of what I speak. That's why I'm in nonprofit PR now, using my skills for good and not evil. (lol)
I have last years model with the dvd/cd drive. Niiiice.
I need to be able to use discs so the wireless model is of no interest. Still looks nice though.
Ima guess Apple did not pay them.
These "news" shows often report the same stuff.
I'm leaning towards coincedence. It's weird, I hate MACs but I really like the fact that it's an inch thin...
@ Afrodite
Why you hate Macs?
I don't have one. But looked at one this summer when I bought a new laptop. I ultimately decided against it. The only one affordable was the 13 inch and it was too small.
Then I decided even if it weren't, I didn't wanna be bothered with learning a new Operating System.
And the white one at the apple store was dirty (after so much repeated use) so that was a turnoff (even though I believe they come in black)
But anyway, why you hate Macs?
ILOVE Macs and have a white, G4 laptop. I,too, need to have a cd/dvd drive, so I'll just move on and continue to lust after the Itouch nano.
The MacWorld conference was going on for the past week. It's when Apple announces new products - and generally it creates quite a buzz and is news in the computer world. So, I doubt Apple paid for the mentions on news shows.
Macs are the best. I've been using Macs for more than 20 years - back when they were Apples and you couldn't pay me to own a PC. I'm actually getting ready to buy a new MacBook Pro. But I'm not getting the Air - yeah it looks cool but I'm not ready to give up discs and firewire yet.
Don,
I'm going to have to defer to Tami on this one. She's a PR person. But it did seem really weird.
Do you use a pc or Mac?

Tami,
Okay I'm without a doubt going to take the word of a professional, you, on this.
It just seemed so weird that on the same morning both shows did segments. Also they were gushing over it.

MudFlapGypsy,
I'm definitely thinking of switching. I wonder if I will have difficulty getting used to the Mac operating system.

TBA,
Yeah they do, sometimes I wonder why they don't just merge. Lol

Afrodite,
Yeah, why do you hat Macs? I really want to know because I'm considering getting one.

Mango Mama,
I debated getting that Nano but I got the one below it. I have so far been very satisfied though.

MDC, If you have to be tweakin' with windows like I have to then the MAc will be a breath of fresh air.No tweakin' nor fiddlin' have I needed to do so far (1 year next month).
Mrs M has a windows laptop running Vista and so far she hasn't needed to tweak or fiddle. Maybe it was just me?
Mac was bought as rock solid machine for photography and hasn't let me down yet.
I'm gonna set up a linux machine sometime soon and see what that is like (lot's of fiddlin' and tweakin' I 'll bet).
My 2c, ALL companies pay or influence to get their new product featured heavily in the media.
I want one too!
