Happy New Year, Mes Deux!!!
Happy New Year Mes Deux Cents! How about: don't eat chicken because the chicken scratch backward therefore if you eat it you will be going backward all year. Eat pork because the hog rout forward therefore you will go forward in the year.
No ironing washing because you could wash some one out of your family. I am from the deep south and around these woods that is Bible.
A woman can not come into the house on new year before a man. You try that one at my mother-in-law house you would be turn around.(no kidding)
Hi, I just recently discovered your blog - it's great.
I'd heard of the black eyed peas tradition, my grandmother always made sure to have BEP and lamb on New Year's Day - I can't remember the reasoning behind the lamb though. Also, my uncle, who lived down the block would always come and ring the bell first thing in the morning to ensure that a man was the first visitor to the house. Again, I don't know why that was important.
MDC, Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year!
My family also practices the black-eye peas and a man outside of the residence being the first person in our house for the new year.
I, too, messed up with the laundry and dirty dishes--- DAMN!
Eat, sleep, and drink pina coladas. Yes, yes. Yummmm ...
Attorney Mom,
Lol, I really don't get that one. I've washed quite a few dishes today so you're not alone!
Have a great year!

JJ B,
Wow, I've never heard those. The one about the chicken is interesting. Thankfully I didn't have to iron today!
I knew the one about the man being first to come over, I wonder if that means the first telephone call of the day needs to be from a man too? Lol
Have a wonderful year!

Hapy New Year, Mes.
I did the black eye peas in the dresser drawer thang. Don't tell no one though.
About the only sound advice I can give any one for New Years Day is to DO NOT EAT CHITTERLINGS. There is absolutely nothin wrong with eating BBQ chicken wings, peas and homemade cornbread.
lol
Don,
You can't fool me, I know you made up the peas in the drawer thing to see if I would go for it! Lol
No Chitt-er-lings for moi!
I guess we know what you had today, I hope it wasn't from KFC! (SMH)
Don,
One more thing; HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Well, I had my blackeyed peas and cornbread and they were yummy. Washed some dishes though. Oh well.
Happy New Year!

Thank God I didn't do laundry yesterday. I almost did. But I did do dishes. Oh Lawd. I'm doomed.
But I did have a half spoonful of blackeyed peas.
I hope the peas saved me.
