The answer is that the U.S. has no intention what-so-ever of pulling troops out of Iraq. Look around the world for further evidence that the U.S. has no plans to leave Iraq. There are U.S. military bases in every theater that it has operated in the last century except Viet Nam. There are bases in Japan, Europe, South Korea and Cuba.
So why are the media and the Democratic Presidential candidates acting as though there is some actual chance that the U.S. will bring the troops home from Iraq?
Are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton just uninformed or are they lying when they both say they will bring the troops home? I tend to think they are both lying. After all they both serve in the U.S. Senate so they are privy to all the goings on in Iraq. Which means the Senators know that the U.S. is not only occupying over 100 bases in Iraq but at least 14 of them are described by the Pentagon as "enduring bases".
It seems that the only Presidential candidate that is currently speaking the truth about America's future involvement in Iraq is Sen. John McCain. Say what you want about him but he is unabashedly giving the American people the "straight dope" on Iraq.
Another question is; why hasn't America's corporate media asked Obama or Clinton more about their supposed plans to bring troops home? Could it be that big business has a stake in America staying in Iraq?
Can you say oil.
The Iraq situation is problematic in terms of how the Democratic candidates are addressing it. There needs to be more real questioning of them by someone. Otherwise , if either is elected, they may just do what the Democratic Congress has done since taking the majority; which is make excuses as to why the troops are not home yet.
What do you think?
Are Clinton and Obama lying?
Do you really believe the troops are coming home any time soon?

McCain needs to be clear for those who don't understand how these things work that "in Iraq for 100 years" doesn't mean in a war.
In fact, he said he's willing for us to be there as long as our troops are being killed and hurt, which is conveniently not mentioned.
Our presence in some form or fashion will be in Iraq long after thousands of troops are gone.
The Democrats would like us to believe we will just pull everyone out and then go about our domestic business.
Black folks in particular know how much is evil is out there. We see it everyday in many of our communities. I don't think we truly see the evil outside our borders the way we say other don't see the evil ravaging the Black community.
thats AREN'T being killed or hurt
I truly believe that if Barack Obama is elected President, the troops in Iraq are coming home. Well, the majority of the troops are comin home. I imagine there has to be some US military presence that is forced to remain in that region. How soon?
That, I can't say.
They are Lying! They are pandering to the crowd, more accurately. Barak as usual uses code words. He says he will "RE-DEPLOY" the troops, he doesn't say WITHDRAW. So Don if you think Barak is bringing the troops home listen to him do just "hear" him. Hillary, says she "will have plans drawn up within 60 days of her taking office to WITHDRAW troops, but we cannot just leave the Iraqis that have helped our troops and the over 100,000 civilian workers there." I am not lover of McCain but he did say the military will be there. I really appreciate the work you did on this. I think we really have to look at what is going on and not just listen to their fantastic tales they tell.
yall want them to tell you that Water is Wet!
LOL
I think they plan and want to bring the troops home, but I don't know if it's possible. I never supported the war (like that matters), but we went in and ruined a country. There are suicide bombers, people dying at markets and in churches, millions of refugees--it's an absolute disaster. I think a better plan needs to be established rather than indefinite deployment, but I don't know what that is. Hopefully Obama or Clinton do.
Wisdom, I don't want them to tell me the water is wet but I'd like for everyone else to know it instead of drowning in it! LOL
@symph,
LOLOL SEE! OK!
and you know they are going to call it everything but wet.
i hear ya!
it is still amazing to me how deep shallow can be...and the thing about it all is how people just don't realize how transparent they Are-and how they must think we are all blind and clueless to what they say and do...
you speak a truth.
i think they are both/all lying to the american masses and laughing privately at our collective stupidity. period.
i have said it before and gotten in trouble, nevertheless, i will say it again...i don't mind being the odd duck...no, i am not proud of condi or colin because they are black/black-like and epitomize "success" in our capitalist/materialistic driven culture...black visibility in the perpetration of evil in no ways translates to progress or success when love of money takes precedence over love of humanity...and yes i will call it in truth and let the chips fall where they may...
...obama (and all like him) can't come to the table unless he demonstrates the following:
a) he knows the rules of engagement
b) he will PLAY by the rules
c) when he stops playing by pre-set rules martyrdom will befall him (research hussein, noriega, and others and their rise and fall to/from white bestowed power)
we are witnessing bold moves to implement world white supremacy. iraq, iran, afghanistan, and pakistan are crucial to that end. based on what is amerikkka qualified to implement democracy in foreign lands? the violent oppression/suppression of these non-white people is essential and economically bountiful for allies that have historically and presently demonstrate that humanity doesn't win over profit.
there is a push to institute one world government. (based on what do you think people of color will run or powerfully participate in it? history and present informs our presence as mere functionaries)
is anyone familiar with the amero and the push to eliminate mexican and canadian borders?
audre lourde said it best...the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house (i paraphrase)
mes deux cents- you rock!

Symphony,
"in Iraq for 100 years" doesn't mean in a war."
That's true and I don't think most people get that.

Ensayn,
I agree talk is cheap. Barack and Hillary need to come clean. But I really don't expect that.

Focused Purpose,
You're right Obama has to play the game. I just hope that there is something left of the real Obama after he's played the game.
And thanks! :)

As has been mentioned before I believe that they may be using coded language that will imply that the US presence may not be as big as it is now, but there will be a US presence there for years to come.
Having known someone in special forces in Iraq, there is no way that all US troops are going to just up and leave.
Lying? Not necessarily, but definitely misguided. I also think that so many of us want the war to be over that we're making too much of campaign "promises" - which should always be taken with a grain of salt.
Ehav,
I agree they are not leaving. I just wish the American people would realize that.

Nicole,
I agree about the campaign promises; remember Bush said he would practice a modest foreign policy. And now the U.S. is engaged in two wars.

They are both probably stretching truth as far as it will go and then when it snaps we will all wake up. They both are playing the public ~ I appreciate your research ~ it is essential we remain truly informed on all of the issues, especially reading media outside of the U.S.
Thank you so much for this!
House on a Hill,
You are so right about reading foreign media. I see so many stories in media outlets outside the U.S. that I never see here.
And even more amazingly I see stories about things going on in the U.S. that American media doesn't cover.
You don't invest 700 million dollars on an embassy and then just pull out. Maybe they will slowly withdraw troops over a period of years. Barack Obama did talk about troops being rotated more often and not having to do extended tours of duty.
