My orchid which looks almost exactly like the one above has 5 blooms (flowers) as of today. It also has 14 buds and a few minutes ago I noticed what appears to be a tiny new bud. And I noticed one of the buds began to look like it was going to bloom Monday night and then on yesterday it began to open!
I've really gone out of my way to take care of my orchid. In fact just this past Sunday I woke up early and went to Target to get some soil and a new pot for it. Then when I returned home I re- potted it. I was really careful and even added some gravel (okay rocks from my backyard) for drainage. Also and this may sound funny but I've been showering with my orchid! Well not really but just before I shower I take my orchid in the bathroom and start the shower.I set the orchid on a high self (since heat rises) then set the water temp to really hot and close the bathroom door, I let my orchid soak up the humidity for about five minutes before lowering the temp. From what I've read my variety of orchid (Phalaenopsis) loves humidity and since I live in a very dry climate this is my way of giving my orchid the humidity it needs.
So, after giving my orchid a lot of care, attention and thought, you can surely understand why I'm so so happy to see it bloom. I'll post again and let everyone know how the new bloom is doing and when it fully flowers. Yippee!

My thumb is brown(outside and in)!! I am always so impressed with people who don't kill flowers!
Hi Lisa,
This is about my third try with orchids. They are really, really tempermental. The others before this one didn't do to well (sigh) so thats why I'm so happy about this orchid.
I'm planning to get more plants but I think I can only handle one orchid at a time. (lol)
