In a recent post I talked about looking for a new city to live. I already have a list (which changes often) in my head. One of those cities on the short list WAS Atlanta, but over the last few weeks I have been hearing reports that Atlanta is running out of water. People are being asked to wash their workout clothes in the shower (I like to wash my clothes and myself separately), not use dish washers, Take shorter showers, shallower baths and all sorts of other measures to conserve.
It seems to boil (pun intended) down to the fact that it's not raining in Atlanta.
How did this happen? Didn't Brooke Benton sing a song called Rainy Night In Georgia? And I always assumed that on that Midnight Train To Georgia Gladys Knight & The Pips sang about there was rain along the way. Is global warming causing it not to rain in Atlanta or simply how the weather cards have fallen for the moment? I guess no one knows for sure but either way the result is the same, in a few months Atlanta may simply run out of water!
I just read a story in The Atlanta Journal -Constitution about a glut of condos in the Atlanta metro area. Which means that when they are sold, and they will be sold, (to the 1000 people moving there every week) that will be an additional drain on water resources.
So, I am officially crossing Atlanta off my list, because I can do without a lot of things, but water isn't one of them.
