As proof of the continued success of stereotypes, Sherri Shepherd of ABC's The View has been signed to develop a new series for the CW based on her life? (sorry that question mark should have been a exclamation point).
The sitcom will tell the story of how her former husband had an affair and of the child that was a product of said affair. Sounds like a great plot for a T.V. show doesn't it.
Apparently the folks at the CW have seen Ms Shepherd's work. She has appeared in such critically acclaimed films as Beauty shop and Who's Your Caddy?, as well as various other inspiring roles.
And it should be known that the CW network is a CBS Corp. media outlet and controlled by Sumner Redstone of Viacom. Mr Redstone and Viacom (as you know) are known for progressive, thought provoking and positive programming such as the uplifting shows Flava Of Love on VH1 and We Got To Do Better on BET.
I hope that at some point Ms Shepherd will grace us with her memoir. I think she should pass along to the rest of us the secrets of her success. I want to know, as I'm sure you want to know, how is she able to so perfectly mimic stereotypes that have been around for a century or more and make them seem so fresh and new!
I am almost unable to contain my joy that soon not only will we be able to see Sherri on The View five days a week, but we will be able to see her star in her own sitcom too!
And I'm sure you agree that you can never, I mean never have too much Sherri!
(I feel sick)
Sherri needs a history lesson
Sherri needs a geography lesson
Question:Do you think Sherri is an embarrassment to Black women or just to herself?
Also, do you think Sherri should be fired from her job as co-host on The View for being such an ignorant person?

Somehow i missed this post.
I don't know much about Sherri Shepard except that she does not believe in evolution and is a Bible literalist. I think she's funny in limited roles. She is as she says "the black woman on white shows". So I guess she's gotta act ummm Black. I don't think I want to see her character as the focus of a show. Too much, way too much.
I think she will learn a lot from Joy, Barbs and Whoopie and we'll see if it effects her acting perspective.
Jackie,
That is a very positive take. I think I'm in the minority when it comes to Sherri. It seems most people like her. In fact this 'sarcastic' post came from me seeing so many statements from bloggers in support of her.
oh well. (lol)
people like sherri? i cannot take her seriously. and i feel bad because whoopi always tries to help her out of these situations. so sad. she embarrasses all black people. you know when she didn't know the world was round, white people were like "i knew it! black people are stupid." *shakes head*

p.s. thanks for commenting on my site. i really appreciate it. :)
I honestly don't give too much thought to Sherri Shepard.
I do enjoy your sarcasm though.
She has appeared in such critically acclaimed films as Beauty shop and Who's Your Caddy?
Love the sarcasm. You sum else.
I think she should cash every check they continue to give her.
E,
That's so true. I cringe when ever I see the show and she opens her mouth. I just know she is going to embarrass all of us.
Afrodite,
(lol) Thanks
Don,
I'm sure she will cash those checks. She needs to use that money to get an education. She can even afford a tutor. (lol)
As long as it isn't at a 'christian' school.
I'll probably see her standing in line at the Flintstones (Creation) Museum in northern Kentucky.
She's an embarrasment not only to us, but the race as well.
Monica,
(lol) Flintsones!
What the heck was B. Walters thinking? I just don't get it.
Hi, new to posting, but not your blog. I check it out every now and then to see what "another" intelligent Black Woman has to say...having said that, I could not let you start the year with the thought that you were alone in the belief that Sherri Shepherd is: a) a complete idiot; b) an embarassment for every rational, intelligent, articulate woman of color in the world and finally c) the epitome of every damaging stereotype that Black Women should avoid in the 21st Century. Whew, I feel better now that I got that off my chest. Keep up the good work!
Vacarterron,
It seems that more and more women of Sherri's ilk are being presented as examples of Black womanhood. That really bothers me.
Thanks so much for reading my blog and for commenting.
I hope you have a wonderful 2008 and I hope you'll comment again in the future.
Thank you for the well wishes and the invite!
We, as a people (small "p") have allowed the BET, "Don Imus" views of Black Women to be the norm by not speaking out as articulate, intelligent sucessful women in mass...thus, we have no one to blame but ourselves. It is time we took responsibility for our inactions (and our actions and ignorance) and gain control of our futures and lives. Your blog is a step in the right direction...I will be checking in on a regularly basis :)
