I didn't really hear about the Grammy nominations on the day that they happened this year. That's partly due to me no longer having cable (local t.v. news is really bad here) and partly because I don't read USA Today everyday anymore. Also I was preoccupied with other things.
So this morning I perused the Grammy noms and wow! It's going to be fun.
Kanye West who lost his mom recently is up for a few awards again, if he doesn't win will he whine about it as usual?
One of my Favorite singers Amy Winehouse is up against Beyoncé and Rihanna for Record Of The Year, so that 's going to be fun.
Song Of The Year has Amy up against Rihanna and Corrine Bailey Rae.
Best New Artist is a lock for Amy which is unfortunate for Ledisi who is a great artist who is finally getting some recognition.
Queen Latifah is up for her Trav'lin' Light album against the popular Michael Bublé, Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler and James Taylor.
One of my favorite bands The White Stripes are up for Best Rock Song, I think they will win but sentimental favorite Bruce Springsteen is in the mix so you never know. But The White Stripes have another chance in the Best Alternative Music Album category.
Best Female R&B Vocal Performance pits my favorite Alicia Keys against Mary J, Chrisette Michele, Jill Scott and Fantasia. What's Fantasia doing in there? And why isn't Amy Winehouse in this category?
Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals features an indicted child pornographer against Chaka Khan, Angie Stone and Rihanna.
Best Urban/Alternative Performance (shouldn't that be best neo-soul?) features the great Alice Smith against Dwele, Meshell Ndegeocello and others.
Best R&B Song is a lock for No One by Alicia Keys.
Check out the entire list of Nominations here.
