Wow awesome picks! You pulled out all sorts of tricks from your bag!
Love Gill Scott Heron and that song brings back memories, I also loved that Lucy Pearl song, they could not make that group work after Dawn left, but then she could make it solo, a total waste of talent either way...
Why don't you just join Old School Fridays? Go by Ms Grapevine's spot and join in the fun!
I love your picks especially Gill Scott Heron and Lucy Pearl(without Dawn they couldn't last) but they were hot for a minute!
I read somewhere on this HUGE resource we have that Dawn got the boot out of LP but... I did like them for the second they lasted. MDC, you are making me really go DIIIIIIG up some stuff now to not bump into you.
Love all the stuff you left, no doubt!!
When I saw the turn tables it took me back to the early eigthies. I use to work at the only Black radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I played James Brown, "I'm Black and I'm Proud ", and I couldn't believe it when my program director came into the studio after the song went off, and told me not to play that James Brown song anymore because it might offend some of our white listeners. Needless to say that James Brown record disappeared from the studio and was never to be seen or heard again.
MDC, I enjoy reading your blog! My husband and I were just talking about Gil Scott Heron and The Bottle. Gil was the baddest man on the gourd!!!
Regina,
I really liked Lucy Pearl too. I wonder what Dawn is doing now?
I'll check old School Fridays out, thanks.

Lady Di,
I hope Dawn can be successful as a solo artist.

T.I.C.,
Yep that's radio for you; I worked in radio too. I quit because of the corporate take-overs. It just isn't the same anymore.

wow @ all these great songs. I see I will be on your blog for a minute this afternoon.
I can listen to the music while reading the second part to your Assata post.
Maybe its YouTube, but I can't get the videos to play.
I used to love me some Anita Baker and used to play Rapture over and over and over again.
Yup; and Patrice and Isely Brothers (I like that song a lot). Forget Me Nots was a fun tune.
Don,
Youtube was out of service for a while this morning.
