But I think it's time for a reality check.
Hillary Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in the year 2000. That means she has been a U.S. Senator for 7 years. Prior to that Hillary Clinton never held public office. She had been a practicing lawyer and on the board of several corporations. Her only other experience was being First Lady of the United States.
Barack Obama served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He was then elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004. That's just about 10 years of legislative experience.
So can anyone explain to me how it is that Hillary Clinton claims to have more experience than Barack Obama? Am I missing something?
Do you think Hillary Clinton has more experience than Barack Obama?
Why doesn't the media challenge her assertion that she has more experience?

Hillary needs to stop with that lame mess. I commented on another blog about the debate and this is my thoughts on the ONLY thing she has that Obama doesn't...
"I did watch the debate it was interesting, not the debate it self because they basically went over old material but watching their styles was interesting to me. I believe that Obama can lead this country into greatness and I don't buy the bologna that Hillary is banking on about her having more experience.
But the one thing I did notice is that Obama's image consultant needs to work with him on his style of speech. My kids and I noticed the same things, which were...
Obama tends to stammer as he gathers his thoughts, as opposed to Hillary who's speech and dialect is very direct, strong and quick.
Also Obama needs to maintain eye contact more with the audience or the speakers, he looks down a lot even if he is writing notes he should do so quickly and then establish eye contact again.
She has the LOOK (very rehearsed & practiced) but he has the SUBSTANCE."
Once he masters these minor things he will be awesome!
hmmm, she comes from a bigwig political family. Maybe she did volunteer work with them?
Or maybe she means her experience as co-president with Bill (which is the real reason that she is hated). She was always the brains in that operation, and everybody knew it.
For what it's worth, I don't think that people would care all that much if she was truly more experienced or not.
She has more national experience (if you wanna get technical). If you ask me, neither one of them have enough "experience" to claim superiority.
It seems that Democrats are willing to bypass their support of experienced candidates for a candidate who can bring "change."
It would be interesting to see how this will play out once the Republicans select Sen. McCain and the Democrats select Sen. Obama.
The detailed legislative record of Obama is something that more of us need to recognize. Thanx for point this out to your blog readers.
OFF-TOPIC: Is your profile photo of you? If so, have you been told that you resemble Sade?
peace, Villager
I've been saying that the more experience thing is a bunch of crap. She's claiming her 8 years as a first lady as her experience. Also, I've heard people say that they feel that her husband will be guiding her if she's elected.
MDC - I am leaving you with this funny snippet from a recent tour stop of Katt's. It sums it all up, almost...
Listen/Look
Hillary must be using new math. My time as first lady + my time as senator = more time the Barak.
I just had this conversation last night with a friend. I said he's been a senator just as long, he was an attorney and activist before, same as her. Her husband was the president not her. I mean, what?
This ridiculous stance, and her arrogance about not changing it, is just one of the the reasons why she lost the last 10 states.
Thanks MDC for breaking that down for us. I don't understand how she can make that claim when knowing that it's not true. I don't trust her!
Hillary Clinton does have more experience that Barack. She spent 8 years in the White House with her husband. There, they failed to create or change the health care system where everyone could be covered affordably. They created NAFTA which instead of making trade fair for America it helped hamper American industry and lost American jobs. They presided over the dimunition of American security with the attacks on the USS Cole and the embassies in Africa which some have said lead to 911.
So yes, I think she has had a lot more experience that Barack in the White House, but it's the kind of experience she should hide rather than gloat about.
Its a dumb strategy Hills has and it should have ended long ago. Democrats obviously aren't looking for experience. If the voters were, neither Barack or HILLARY would still be in the game.
It would be Biden and Dodd, who have not only longevity but leadership experience DRAFTING (not just voting on) legislation that has helped people.
symphony, that's such a good point. It seemed like we had a whole bunch of senators to choose from -- and not that many people who have owned a business, run a state, etc.
Thanks for pointing this out...Now when will mainstream news outlets make this a point of discussion?
I know I will get booed, but Senator Hillary Clinton's experience is quite varied. Having worked on the Walter Mondale presidential campaign in the late 70's,organized the Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families, worked alongside Marion Wright-Edelman and the Children's Defense Fund, she worked with lawyers and civil rights workers on banning tax-exempt status being given by the Nixon admimistration to segregated schools, chaired the rural Health Committe, registered hispanic voters in Texas in the 70's, and raised Chelsea before becoming a First Lady and a Senator.
I believe both candidates are qualified and will both contribute in different ways. I personally believe Michelle Obama has more experience than her husband and has contributed far more to the community ~ but Senator Obama is extremely qualified ~ he just has not put into our community what he has gotten out, yet. He was not from the inner city or privy to our issues until much later in life though, so let's see what happens I guess.
Regina,
I agree that Sen. Obama has a few things to work on. I but that's sort of nice that he's still kind of real.
Hillary Clinton seems plastic.

SheCodes,
Yeah I really think she thinks her time counts.
You are so right about her being hated. The conservatives are holding back. But they would pass out from excitement if she were the Nominee. They can't wait to attack her.

NBW,
I think Obama would play McCain as the insider. He's (Obama) has already made some statements to that effect. Also I think he would play up McCain's age.

Villager,
Thanks for the info. And that is Sade. I stole the idea from my blog sister Janie at Getting a Life. She uses Billie Holiday's pic.

Tasha,
I am one who thinks it will be a co-Presidency if she's elected. That is unacceptable.

Lady Di,
Thanks for the link!

T.I.C.,
Exactly; but that won't work in the general election, if she's the Nominee McCain will blow that claim out of the water.

Invisible Woman,
I just do not get how the media let's her get away with it. The American media is just so incompetent. They don't even try to hide it anymore.

JJ B,
I don't trust her as far as I could throw her!

Curious,
Well said! Yep she will be in big trouble if the media wakes up and calls her on her experience.

Symphony,
I agree, I think most Democratic voters want someone fresh. So that counts Hillary out!

Jillybean,
Probably never, she's been claiming all of this experience for a few months now and they are silent.

House on a Hill,
Lol, no one will boo you (unless you are a Huckabee supporter)
You have certainly outlined her work but I wouldn't count raising Chelsea nor being First Lady.
Especially since her attempt to get legislation past while First Lady was a failure.

Houseonahill: no boo from me, but why does someone have to be from the inner city to relate to Black issues? I am not from there either, and believe me, I deal with them on the daily.
Have you read his book? He has had a great deal of hardships, believe it or not.
I don't think Hillary's from the inner city either, but I dunno.
I saw where you asked the question in passing. And I haven't taken the time to respond so I'm glad that you posted about it.
Um, I really don't know if Hillary has more experience...because I really don't know everything both she and Obama have accomplished.
But I'm pretty sure she includes her stint as First Lady (White House & while Bill was Governor) in the mix.
Knowing her, she does.
What's the difference if Obama got experience or not.
Our current president George Bush don't even have a damn brain.
Chile, please.
I mean, Baby Please.
DAMMIT, THIS BLOGGER IS WEARING ME OUT. I'VE LEFT LIKE THREE COMMENTS IN THE LAST FEW MINUTES AND EACH TIME, I HAD TO TYPE THE CODE IN 658 TIMES. I MUST CAN'T SEE TONIGHT OR BLOGGER IS TRYNA WEAR ME OUT.
Whew! Tantrum over. Better now. LMAO.
Don,
Yep I noticed you didn't respond. :(
