Blogs have become to me what CNN might be for other people. Every morning as I start my day I read blogs to get 90% of the information I need to feel informed for the day. It's information that is tailored to my needs. It so amazing the news and information that I get reading blogs. If it's important someone will be writing about it.
I think blogs are the major Black media of the new century. Blogs are at this point the only major news sources that are completely Black owned. We don't have a nationally distributed newspaper, we don't have a national talk and news radio network and we don't have a nationally broadcast t.v. station. BET as I'm sure you know is owned by Viacom and TV ONE although founded by a Black woman is only partly Black owned. Comcast Cable and DirecTV share ownership with Radio One. So there are no nationally available news and information sources owned and operated by African Americans except blogs!
Blogs have filled the void.
In just a few years blogs have taken the top spot as purveyors of news and information of interest to many African Americans. Everyday thousands of blogs authored by African Americans and Black people from around the world cover just about every topic under the sun.
You can read about family, economics, music, quilting, sports, education, politics, dating, marriage, kids, films, music, activism, the list goes on and on!
Blogs have become an integral part of my life. I just can't imagine starting my day without reading and surfing the blogisphere. I can't even comprehend that there was a time before blogs? I think and hope that the blogisphere will continue to expand and become even more important. It is to me the most amazing form of media to come along since the t.v. and in my life it has totally replaced the t.v.
Blogs have become my mainstream media
What percentage of news and information do you get from blogs?

I get my daily required dose of celebrity gossip from blogs, for sure. Although I have weaned myself away from most of my favorite sites. I find that they can be a little too cruel and snarky. It's almost like stopping by Shaquaisia and them's house and getting the 411.
Not interested anymore.
DMB,
(lol) I agree. Concrete Loop isn't that bad but there are many others that just bash, every day. It gets monotonous and boring but I guess they are following the TMZ model.
I feel like I've missed out on something if I don't read daily. On days that I don't get to at least surf, I'm really busy - and it's impossible to check in. But I certainly find out MORE via blogs than I do watching the news!
Lisa,
When I took a little trip and a break from blogging and reading blogs it was really wierd.
When I got back I felt like I had so much to catch up on!
I definitely get most of my info from blogs. If anything I'll skim through mainstream media, but read intently at the blogs!
I'm waiting for i-radios and Youtubes to be next! lol
Miriam,
In the morning it's me, tea and blogs! That's how I start every morning.
Mainstream media just frustrates me.
Ms Deux,
Knowing that some people rely on my blog for info is one reason I strive to make my posts as accurate as possible.
Monica,
I think you do a great job of that.
I really appreciate that the blogs I read make an effort to get it right.
