That 's right your government, the Food and Drug Administration, several months ago approved the selling of cloned meat for human consumption. So very soon you will be able to go to your local grocer and buy Daisy the cow's cloned daughter, Daisy.
If that were not enough the FDA will not make meat sellers label cloned meat as such. So you will have no way of telling if meat is cloned or natural.
I say you because I'm now (as of today) officially a vegetarian. I've been trying vegetarianism out for about the last 5 or 6 months. I figure now is a really good time to become a permanent vegetarian with Daisy the cloned cow coming to market.
The FDA says they think, well they are pretty sure, that eating cloned meat will cause no health problems in humans. When I say sure I mean they are at least as sure as they were when they unleashed saccharine on Americans 30 or 40 years ago. And as I'm sure you know, saccharine causes cancer.
So the question is; are you willing to become a guinea pig for the FDA? Will you eat cloned meat?
I wonder what's next? Have you seen the film Soylent Green?

This is making me seriously consider becoming a vegetarian. I've thought about it in the past briefly, but I'm not feeling cloned meat!
I only eat organic meat, and because it's so expensive, I don't eat that much of it.
Even before they started cloning meat, they were pumping the cows full of growth hormones and estrogen. (I am CONVINCED this is why young girls are physically developing so early these days, and it probably is adding to the breast cancer numbers too)
I'm more of a fish person now. The organic associations aren't going for cloning.
People also need to know that the milk that they drink might come from cloned cows too.
Girl, don't get me started on this ish! That's a whole nother blog! Girl, I sent that yahoo news item to everyone in my email; even people I half talk to or never talk to.
I have fooled around with vegetarianism and veganism. I'm already in the process of adjusting my diet; and considering a return to vegetarianism. I'll prolly opt to be a flexetarian. (I do enjoy sushi and don't envision a life without it. LOL) That news is making me consider a return to vegetarianism, though. It is something I've considered in recent weeks but I don't know if it's practical for my lifestyle. I have to be realistic about that. But I think it's something to seriously consider.
Mes Deux -- we're totally eye to eye on this one!
My cousin is 6 feet 2, 262 pounds and wears a size 16 shoe! This is a 16 year old child (recently turning 16) He is a boy. I don't care what nobody say; that is the U.S. food supply and the result of hormones and... oh Lawd - don't git me started. LOL.
I haven't seen that. Should I?
This blog is fun! :)
yeah i'm gonna try to avoid this but i love meat soo! i hope it's clearly labeled as cloned.
Vegetarian since 1990 and this sure makes me glad I am. I only buy organic milk and chicken for the kids and my husband because this sort of thing just freaks me out.
On the other hand, folks will get up in arms about this but they'll still use pans coated in Teflon. That always just baffles me completely.
I might be just about ready to join you in "no meat" land, MDC. Especially after my last 'bout' with, well, you know.
This is absolutely crazy!!! In your experimenting - did you los eany weight? What kind of changes have you noticed in your body?
NBW,
Now is definitely a good time to be a vegetarian.

SheCodes,
You're right about the milk. I gave up milk last summer. I drink soymilk in its place.
Also they give cows a lot of anti-biotics.

Baby Please,
I've learned a new term Flexetarian. I like that.
Wow that's a big kid! SheCodes (above) talks about the hormones making girls develop earlier.
All this is just really bad.
About Soylent Green; well it's one of those really low budget 70's films. I saw it one, really for laughs.
The interesting part was just that there was a corporation recycling human bodies as food for people.
I would say if you se it at the flea market for 2 bucks then it would be a good buy. Lol

e,
The government is not requiring labeling. That's not good.

Liz,
I gave up using Teflon about a year ago. When I heard it was leeching into the food that was it for me.
It just seems that the FDA is worthless.
Lately I have been keeping track of what the EU bans. They seem to be very careful about their food supply.

Lisa,
I lost a lot of weight and pretty fast. In fact I became a little concerned and made an effort to gain some weight back.
I still have to be careful and monitor my weight.
