If Dr. King were to reappear today he would...
A) Be very happy with the progress America has made with regard to race.
B) Be very disappointed with the state of African America
C) Be very pleased that so many African Americans have achieved so much
D) All of the above.

When the National Guard or the Coast Guard or Police rescue someone who has gotten lost while camping or sailing or doing something crazy (like going hiking in a blizzard), who pays for it?
Do we, taxpayers, have to pay for that? Or do they charge the people who decided to take a chance and risk their lives doing something risky?
And if we, the taxpayers, pay for it does that bother you?

Marion Jones will be on Oprah tomorrow. It should be very interesting.
Also on PBS tonight there is a Frontline program about Vice President Dick Cheney.

Remember my post on Angel Lola Luv? (Read my original post about Angel here) Well many of the people who commented on that post speculated about her motives for doing what she does. So I thought it would be interesting to hear Angel in her own words.
I found this interview with Angel. In it she talks about her career and her aspirations.
After watching this do you think Angel will leave her video vixen career behind? What do you think of her?
Warning: There is a bit of profanity from Angel in this interview.

During the time of racial segregation in the U.S. African American students seemed to do better overall than they are doing today.
The schools they attended were sometimes falling down around them, the textbooks they used were often outdated. And yet overall they did better on average than Black students today.
Why do you think that is the case?

One more thing about Hillary...
Last week Hillary Clinton used the support of feminist Gloria Steinem to help her win the New Hampshire Primary and gain the votes of White women voters.
This week Sen Clinton has used the support of a misogynist Bob Johnson to help her gain the support of Black women voters in South Carolina.
What does that say about Hillary's feminist credentials? What does that say about Hillary's view of Black women?

all i know is that she seems to be very desparate at this point. and i think that some of her 'moves' will backfire on her and in turn puch obama further than anyone thought.
GREAT questions. I have like 10 paragraphs to write about all this. But I'll just say I think Dr. King would pick choice D.
I'll come back later to weigh in on everything else! :)
i rmber when dr King was killed, i was 6 at the time and national guard told me i couldnt play outside in my fron yard on my street in memphis
ps: 92 post in 2008, u rolling. I get out about 190 a year since 2005....and I would have voted but u didnt include my choice Dr. Paul (Ron). why is that?
a collection of interesting stuff. lemme get back to you on alladis. It's good, though ...
Hello to you. This is my first visit to your site and will not be the last. I love how your blog is organized and the features that you have. I wrote a post on Dr. King and why it is important to truly honor and remember him on my blog Universal Blackness. Please check it out when you can. I will try and catch th Marion Jones interview on Oprah, what a sad story. That's all for now, take care.
To the first question, I think Dr. King would be both proud and heartbroken over the state of black America. Because, there are two black Americas - one which has a real upper and middle class that has made tremondous strides in business, education and politics and then there is the poor black America, which appears to be growing and are trapped in neighborhoods with poor access to education, jobs and housing.
As far as black students doing better in segregation days then they are now, there are several factors. From the lack of oppurtunities given to black professionals back in the day which kind of forced them into teaching, to having a more cohesive community, to black middle class students struglling with an identity, to inner city kids KNOWING they have been left behind.
That whole skier thing stuck in snow - I didn't really tune into the costs associated with those rescues until I saw something on the news several months ago. They did a story on whether this is something taxpayers should have to foot. Yeah; I feel some type of way about that. There are prolly instances when this expenditure is justified but prolly more often than not they are not and their families (or insurer or something) should foot the bill.
Wow...quite a collection, where does one start? Great stuff here!
I'd go for all of the above for Dr. King.
re: Billary. Clueless hahahhahah
But who can reach her? She's so way up there and those guys (Johnson, et al) are also high profile.
WTM,
I think some of her moves have already begun to backfire on her. But we'll know for sure after the South Carolina Primary.

I look forward to hear what you have to say.

Torrance,
I'm not exactly sure how I got on this pace; I'm not sure how long I can keep it up.
Ron Paul has become a sort of fringe candidate hasn't he?

Mr Shadow,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'll definitely stop by and check out your post.
Marion's story just gets more and more sad. I really want to hear what she has to say on Oprah.
Thanks for the kind words about my blog!

BC Planning,
I think you make a great point about inner city kids knowing they have been left behind.
It seems that once a month there is a study telling us how badly they are doing. I guess many of the kids believe what they hear too.

Baby Please,
I agree, if people are being reckless, then they should pay for rescue.
On Dr. King…I think he envisioned us being further along than we are – us meaning blacks and society overall. Despite all the sacrifices of the Civil Rights Movement, we’re still being ravaged by racism, sexism, poverty, drug abuse, high drop out rates, AIDS, etc, and many are too busy buying into the MTV/BET/VH1 culture to notice.
On Angel Lola Luv: Huh? She's working on her music and she’s in the studio and will have something out this year but she’s not working on an album. Huh? And she’s not sure if she’d do Playboy or take off her bottoms? Why? I saw most of her backside in the photos shown during the interview. But maybe she draws the line at frontal nudity – nice to know she does have standards. Tho I’m not judging (or maybe I am). She should learn from the porn stars...it's hard to go mainstream once you're in that industry. And while she's not doing porn, she's just a small step above it.
On Billory: She’s proving that she never thought Obama would be a threat; if she had, her team would have strategized well enough that they wouldn’t need desperate tactics now. Getting ready to read my Jan. 21st Newsweek with her on the cover.
That's my long two-cents worth.
Hi Nicole,
I totally agree that Dr King would be disappointed. In many ways we have come a long way but many are still left behind.
I think the thing that Dr King would be most surprised by is the willingness of many African Americans to participate in their own destruction.
On Angel; I was really confused by her. On the one hand, there are times in the interview when she seems bright but then there are times when she seems like she is totally lost.
In the end I came away feeling sorry for her. I hope she finds her way.
On Billory; you're right, they were not prepared for a loss in Iowa. So they became desperate and did really crazy things like getting Bob Johnson to stump for her.
That makes me wonder what she really thinks of Black women. Bob Johnson is a misogynist disguised as a business man.

Lol, the more I look at the young lady's buttocks the more I got to believe it as fake as she is.
I think Martin Luther King would be pleased. I really do. I don't think he would jump up and down for joy, but I think he would recognize the framework.
Hillary and Bill look some kind of funny in that picture.
I think back before intergration, the black students were actually taught. They took pride.
ClnMike,
I think a lot of people think that.

Don,
I agree that he, Dr King, would be pleased about certain things.
But I think he would be very unhappy about many other things.
Can you imagine what he would think of BET?
I think you could be right about the pride factor.

I bet he wonder what kind of mess BET was trying to convey with its programming.
